Can Spring Be Far?

Severe storms, tornadoes, heavy rain – a bit early for Chattanooga. Round 2 Saturday and Sunday.

The peepers and chorus frogs could be heard in the neighboring wetlands last night and this morning. The spring bulbs have been lured into sprouting.

We’re not done with winter yet, though…

Cloudy with Computers, TaeKwonDo, and Avatar…

What a dreary (but relatively warm) day today. The rain started about 6 pm, and is is just a pleasant shower now.

Worked on getting the performance up on the desktop computer today. It is amazing what a 17 & 13 year old boy can do to mess up a computers performance. I think I got it back to some semblance of working like it should. Looking forward to getting the fiber optic line to the house!

Went to see Avatar this evening. Definitely lived up to what friends are saying – the effects are really something. But there is a good story here, and as an Environmental Science professor I thought it was particularly relevant. What folks need to realize is that this could easily be a documentary about what people are doing today. How about “Mountain Top Removal Mining” for starters.

What’s really scary is that there are plenty of people who would are definitely in line with the crazy colonel and greedy mining executive.

Sad and scary.

Some day some folks are going to have a lot of ‘splainin to do…

A Welcome Wave of Warmth!

What a beautiful sunny day today in Chattanooga!  The temperature had to have been in the 50′s, a welcome respite from the very cold temperatures we have been having for what seems like the last month or so.  Yes, I know it is January but it has been colder than usual by Tennessee standards.

A nice day for the second day of class for Spring Semester 2010 at Chattanooga State.  I would not be surprised to hear some peepers and chorus frogs this weekend!
